Senior Back End Developer at Missive

  • Full-time
  • Remote, North America/Europe
  • $145,000 yearly

Missive brings inbox collaboration to teams that run on email. We're a small, technical team building a product that our customers genuinely love. We're looking for Back End Developer who can help us handle massive scale, billions of emails, real-time collaboration, and integrations with dozens of email providers and APIs. A fun playground.

What you’ll achieve

  • Collaborate with product and design teams to implement new features from scratch.
  • Improve and scale our back-end code for performance and readability.
  • Lead bug fixes and support related investigations.

Must Have Skills

  • 5+ years of experience.
  • Strong Rails experience.
  • Experience building reliable, maintainable, and scalable code base.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, complex environment; able to debug, optimize, and automate workflows while handling large data flows.
  • Thrives in a small, high-performing team, takes ownership, and learns new technologies independently.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with email infrastructure.
  • Excited over Postgres releases and performance tuning.

Working at Missive

We're a small team that cares deeply about building a great product. We ship fast without compromising on quality, and we actually use what we build every day.

  • Zero-ish meeting culture, allowing you to focus on what you do best.
  • Do more with less mentality.
  • Remote or/and in-office work options (HQ 👉 Quebec City, Canada).
  • Work closely with a team that recognizes the value of technical expertise.
  • Dog food your own work. We work from Missive all day.
  • Work on a product loved by its users.
  • Retreats.

Why you should not work at Missive

This role isn’t for everyone. Missive operates at massive scale, each user brings hundreds of thousands or millions of emails with them. We’re a live, collaborative product touching tens of APIs, from Google Workspace and Office 365 to the long tail of IMAP providers, each with their own quirks and edge cases.

This is challenging work. You’ll need to enjoy getting your hands dirty, investigating complex issues, digging through API documentation, debugging edge cases, and finding creative solutions to problems that don’t have obvious answers. If you prefer well-defined problems with clear solutions, this probably isn’t the right fit.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary for this position depends on experience and qualifications within the range of USD $100,000 to $150,000 annually + bonus. In addition to the base salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes insurance coverage, telemedicine, 5 weeks of vacation time, and other perks.

How to Apply

We welcome applications from candidates located in Europe/North America.
