Big Cartel is a self-hosted Rails e-commerce platform that's been around for a little over 20 years. We've been independent and profitable from day one. Our small team prides itself on working to build simple, powerful tools for folks just starting their online selling journey.

This role is on our DevOps team. Your primary areas of focus will be application deployment, performance, observability, and maintenance of the systems that power Big Cartel. We're a small team without strict boundaries so someone who is comfortable diving into the Rails stack and contributing is a bonus.

Skills/responsibilities

These are some of the things you can expect to do on a regular basis. You don't necessarily have to have every box ticked on this list but should be confident in your ability to quickly acquire skills and get up to speed.

Can work alone or as part of a small team to build and launch ambitious projects
Knowledge and experience automating systems with Ansible
Experience with operating high throughput Rails applications
Solid fundamental understanding of Linux systems administration
Setup and operation of Kubernetes clusters
Authoring of Helm charts
Installation and configuration of monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Grafana
Understanding of web metrics and tracking down performance issues
